Deepavali, also known as Diwali or the “festival of lights” is celebrated by Hindus all around the world to mark the triumph of good over evil. As one of the major annual cultural festivals in Singapore, the streets of Little India is lit once again with colourful giant fixtures such as lanterns and 20m-tall peacocks.
From 22nd September to 25th November 2018, expect brightly lit light displays, games, performances and not forgetting the shopping bazaar at the Festival Village on Campbell Lane and Hastings Road. Shop away as there will be a variety of stalls offering Indian ethnic wear, costume jewellery, ornamental decorations, greeting cards, traditional sweets and delicacies, festive cookies, henna and more.
While you’re at it, don’t forget to join the crowd for some fun and games, as there will be folk games such as the marble game, “Goli” and board game, “Pachisi” - between 4pm and 6pm on the third Saturday of September to November.
To enmesh yourself with the festive mood, dance along to our live performances by our talented dancers and musicians and experience a stage comedy at Clive Street every Friday and Saturday evening till October 28. To end the night, don’t miss the Arts Carnival with art and photo exhibitions, interactive art installations, art jamming and sand art sessions on Hindoo Road.
